Physical Therapy

The rehabilitative treatments to improve motor skills, primarily gross motor skills, are the focus area of the Physical Therapist (called as Physiotherapist). The department of Physiotherapy from the Local SDM College gives us voluntary services everyday by having a posting for the students at our center.

The faculties along with students are posted everyday at our centre. The Faculties are professors in physical therapy and specialization with neuro development training and certification. Dr. Kiran Serigeri, Vice Principal of SDM Physiotherapy College, who is a post graduate in pediatric neuro physical therapy, is at the helm of this section.

The physical therapist evaluates the child overall motor function, including loco motion and activities of daily living. The evaluation includes observation of primitive and protective reflexes, muscle tone, posture, and joint motion. Following the assessment, the therapist is involved with the child, with the family, in a center based program to improve motor function and prevent contractures or deformity.

In addition to assessment and direct therapy, the physical therapist also works with the pediatric orthotist under the direction of the orthopedic, Dr. Sandeep Neeralgi an orthopedic surgeon or developmental physician in planning assistive devices for children who need them. These include ankle foot orthoses, foot inserts, and special seat inserts, walkers, canes and wheelchairs, with these we focus on loco-motor system and treating the cerebral palsy component.

The services of SDM Physiotherapy College, Dharwad and the services of Dr.Sandeep Neeraligi are totally voluntary. We appreciate their commendable service to our center.
